Dear Netflix

Dear Netflix,

I have been a loyal customer for a while, as in before the streaming option really took off and before there was such a thing as a Red Box machine. I sincerely believe that you are an innovative company, and generally, your customer service has been exemplary, especially when it comes to lost discs and other things of that nature. That being said, while I understand the rationale for the recent rate hike, I must express that I am certainly not happy with it.

I just cancelled my DVD plan. I was not really using it anyway, as Red Box is much more convenient. I could justify it when the unlimited streaming and one DVD plan was only $10 a month, but for $7.99 for DVD only, forget about it.

As for streaming, you are on notice. You see, while streaming is convenient and becoming ubiquitous in terms of the number of devices that can access the service, I have not been impressed as of late with the quality of the available titles. It seems, and this may just be a string of bad luck on my part, that every time my wife or I think, “Hey, I really would like to watch (fill in the blank) movie”, the title is not available. One specific example of something I would like to see you put back in the streaming catalog is Magnum P.I. There are almost certainly never any new releases available.

I understand that you are at the mercy of the studios with regards to what you can offfer up for streaming. However, please make us not regret the price hike and actually use it to get some better selection. Otherwise, I’m out, as your service is a “nice to have” and not a necessity.
